1.
Why did you decide to attend Rutgers?
I wanted
the best New Jersey had to offer. Rutgers provided me with
the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds,
while providing me with an educational standard that is recognizable
in the business world.
2.
Why did you choose your undergraduate major?
I have
always been interested in business. I did not just want to
learn about a particular part of business, but I wanted a
broad overview. Economics, in my opinion, did just that.
3.
How did you get your first job out of college?
I had
worked with Nextel Communication as an intern, and was offered
a position once I got out of school.
4. Describe your current position
and responsibilities?
I am in
charge of the daily operations of Rumarketplace.com. Everything
from ad placements to strategic development of new markets
comes across my desk for review or suggestions.
5.
To what degree is your current position related to your academic
major(s)?
A lot
of the knowledge I utilize in running my business was gained
from the classes I took to complete my major.
6.
As a person of color, what has been your most challenging
experience on the job? How did you handle it and what did
you learn?
I must
say that the most challenging experience starting my company
was getting funding for it. I am not sure if race had much
to do with it or the economy, but it was very difficult.
7.
What advice or suggestions would you offer to Rutgers students
of color?
You can
really do anything you set your mind to. I know this might
sound trite, but I am now a stronger believer for this. Just
set a goal for yourself and map out how to reach it. Start
with something little and move on to bigger goals. You will
become a believer too.
