About Our Staff - 46 College Avenue

Chrystal McArthur, Associate Director
Chrystal has been associate director of the Career Center at 46 College Avenue since 1993. She is a nationally certified counselor with 25 years plus of academic, personal and career counseling experience targeted towards assisting individuals in leading more fulfilling lives. She has her A.B. in psychology from Lincoln University and M.Ed. in counseling from Howard University. Her areas of expertise include career development and management issues of adults, academic and career development of people of African descent, graduate students' career development issues, vocational/career assessment, and career issues of individuals with disabilities. Chrystal is also a certified distance counselor.
Liaison to the Graduate School of Social Work.

David Bills, Assistant Director
David joined Rutgers-New Brunswick Career Services as an Assistant Director in 2001. From 1998 to 2001 he was a staff career counselor for the Rutgers-Newark Career Development Center. David holds a master's degree in counseling psychology and a bachelor's in psychology, both from Rutgers. He specializes in: helping creative and unconventional students/alumni with major and career decision making; counseling undergraduate/graduate students and alumni on majors, careers and job searching in the arts, social sciences, humanities, communications and education; and assessing personality style preferences as a certified administrator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
Liaison to Mason Gross School of the Arts and the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies.

Scott Borden, Career Counselor
Scott began working with Career Services in 1992. He has a B.S. in business administration from Monmouth University and a M.A. in counseling and personnel services from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey). He spent six years in the brokerage industry with Shearson Lehman Hutton in New York City. Scott has taught career counseling and vocational psychology as an adjunct instructor at Rutgers and The College of New Jersey. He is also a partner in a private firm, Career Planning Concepts, located in Princeton, New Jersey. Scott is a licensed professional counselor, a national certified counselor, and a national certified career counselor. His areas of expertise include careers in business and finance, college readiness, psychological testing and assessment, re-careering and career transition, self-esteem building, and student retention.

Monica Bryant, Assistant Director
Monica has been with Career Services since 1987. Her previous work experience was in the fields of business, human services and higher education. Monica has a B.A. in psychology from Rutgers and a M.A. in human development from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in organizational systems at Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center. Her areas of interest and expertise include career planning and management for "returning," transfer, and graduate students and alumni, and global/experiential education, diversity in the workplace, and organizational development and transformation.

Sylvia D. Cordero, Assistant Director
Sylvia has been with Career Services since 1991. She also worked at Rutgers-Newark from 1988-1991. She has a B.A. in social sciences and labor relations from the University of Puerto Rico and a M.A. in labor studies from Rutgers. Prior to Rutgers, Sylvia worked for Middlesex County College, Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital, Woodbridge Development Center, and several labor unions. Her areas of expertise include career assessment, students of color, international students, and computer graphics.

Larry Jacobs, Assistant Director - and Buddy
Larry joined Career Services in 2001. Previously, Larry worked for NOVA and Middlesex County College. He has also been an adjunct psychology instructor at Middlesex County College. He has a B.A. in political science from C.W. Post College, a M.S. in counseling from SUNY-Albany, and a Ed.S. in educational specialist counseling from SUNY-Albany. Larry's areas of expertise include motivational programs, counseling students with disabilities, facilitation of self-esteem and wellness support groups, career testing, and lifestyle planning.

Larry's hearing dog is named Buddy, and he serves as a good will ambassador on the Douglass and Cook Campuses.

Tina Vance Knight, Assistant Director
Tina joined Career Services in 2003. She has a B.A. in sociology and education from LaSalle University and a M.Ed. in instructional design training and development from Penn State University. Prior to Rutgers, Tina worked for eight years in higher education in student activities and programming positions. Most recently, she worked for Mercer County community college and the District 1199C Training and Upgrading Fund in Philadelphia. Her areas of expertise include designing and developing workshops, and counseling liberal arts majors, students of color, and people with disabilities.

Doug Ricci, Career Counselor
Doug began working with Career Services since 1992. He is a licensed professional counselor in the State of New Jersey, a national certified counselor, and a national certified career counselor. Doug has a B.S. in life sciences from New York Institute of Technology and a M.A. in counseling and personnel services The College of New Jersey. Doug is a partner in a private career counselor practice, Career Planning Concepts, located in Princeton, New Jersey. He has taught career counseling and vocational psychology at the graduate level as an adjunct instructor at The College of New Jersey. His areas of expertise include business and entrepreneurial careers, adults in career transition, pre-medical advising and counseling, and career testing and assessment.

Linda Bagen, Career Services Assistant
Linda has been with Career Services since 2001. She has a B.A. in labor
studies from Rutgers. She is responsible for assisting students with their inquiries, supervising work-study students, and handling administrative functions of the office.

Mark O. Kerr, Unit Coordinator
Mark has been with Career Services since 2003. He has a B.A. degree in psychology from Mount Union College and a M.A. in student personnel services in higher education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has held management positions in the career services field over the past 25 years at Bucknell University, the College of William & Mary, the Rutgers Business School/Graduate School of Management, and DeVry University. Mark is responsible for greeting and assisting students and alumni with career-related issues.
