Log on to http://riw.rutgers.edu for events, programs, mass media, political groups, housing, think tanks, and much more.


2. Career-related Links

Log on to http://careerservices.rutgers.edu; click on "Career-related links"; click on "Government/Nonprofit/Education." You will find links to 32 sites, including some of the leading federal government agencies.


3. Federal Jobs and Internships

Internships--Log on to www.studentjobs.gov for internship listings, applications, employment facts, a resume builder, and more

Jobs--Log on to www.usajobs.opm.gov or call 1-478-757-3000.

4. Corporate Jobs and Internships in the DC Area

The Department of Employment Service contains a directory of the top 200 employers in DC with a broad representation of District-based industries, including social services, department stores, restaurants, hotels, educational institutions, construction firms, financial institutions, and membership organizations. Log on to http://www.ourpublic.service.org for a variety of resources and links.


6. Networking

Alumni Career Network--Log on to http://careerservices.rutgers.edu; click on "Alumni" and "Alumni Career Network." Enter your school password, "henry." Click on "Search by Location." Enter "Virginia" and "Maryland." You will see some alumni who are working for the federal government.

Personal Networking--Develop a list of people you know who may have a direct or indirect relationship to the federal government. Make contact and ask for referrals or leads.


7. Your Senator or Congressman

Contact your U.S. senator or congressman and ask about internship opportunities either in D.C. or his or her New Jersey office. Start with your senator's or congressman's website. If you don't know your congressman, log on to http://www.house.gov; click on "House Directory"; click on "Official List of Members by State"; scroll down to "New Jersey." Once you have your congressman's name, google him or her to arrive at the website.


8. Rutgers Career Days

Attend Rutgers career days from September to May. US government agencies are most prominent at our Government and Nonprofit Career Day in April. Government agencies also attend:
