Choosing a Major Action Plan

Career Services Resources

  • Visit the office of Career Services on your campus. Pick up the Career Services Guide and read the section for First- and Second-year students.
  • Visit the First- & Second-year Students section on our website.
  • Consult our "Career Opportunities for Majors in" series. The top 60 majors at Rutgers are profiled, including lists of real jobs obtained by real Rutgers alumni. Paper copies are available at any Career Services office.
  • Pick up a First or Sophomore Year Action Plan and our fall or spring Events calendar.
  • Attend our seminars, "What Do I Do with a Major in . . .?" and "Oh, Those Major Decisions," offered several times each semester. Review strategies and steps to determine the right major for you. See our Events calendar for details.
  • Schedule a one-hour appointment with a career counselor at the Career Services office on your campus to explore possible choices of major.
  • Consult the on-line Alumni Career Network to identify Rutgers graduates by major. Call them or write them to inquire about why they chose their major and how it impacted their career.
  • Visit the Rutgers Online Career Planning Site on our website to explore your interests, skills, and values and how they relate to Rutgers University majors and general career options.
