Job Search Action Plan
- Attend career-related seminars, employer events and information sessions to sharpen your skills and establish employer contacts.
- Practice and improve your interviewing skills to make an impact on the job interview. Develop a 60 second personal "info-mercial."
- Register with Career Services by completing your CareerKnight profile and uploading your résumé.
- Once registered, participate in CareerKnight (on-campus interviewing, jobs, internships).
- Research industries and employers, utilizing print and online resources such as employer websites, Wetfeet and Vault.
- Expand your job-search parameters in terms of geography, industry, job title and job type (full-time or part-time). If you are relocating, ask Career Services to arrange reciprocity at other career centers around the country.
- Update your résumé and cover letter and have them critiqued by a career counselor. Develop a personal business card with contact information on one side and bulleted skills and qualifications on the other.
- Utilize career and job-related Internet resources.
- Attend career days both on-campus and off-campus to make personal contact with recruiters.
- Set up an individual appointment with a career counselor.
- Use the online Alumni Career Network to contact alumni in your major or fields of interest.
- Develop and maintain a positive attitude toward your job search. Stay physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy during your time of transition.
- Network with friends, family, neighbors, local merchants, etc. Get your name and résumé out there!
