Career Planning Overview

The career planning needs of first and second year students often differ from upperclass students.  During the early college years you may find yourself focusing on the following issues:

      Exploring academic options

      Choosing a college major

Examining career paths by college major

      Obtaining work experience

      Developing specific career goals

Many of you may have a hard time choosing a college major.  Many students will change majors during their college careers and/or experience confusion with their academic plans.  If you are having a difficult time with your career plans you may be helped with:

Workshops geared to assist with choosing a major

      Individual career counseling

Information on college majors related to career opportunities, salaries, and employers

Most students can be helped to choose appropriate college majors following a period of self-assessment and information gathering.  Once you select a major, you can focus on getting relevant work experience and discovering the extensive career opportunities available to every Rutgers University major.

For help with choosing a college major, schedule an individual career counseling appointment at any Career Services office.
