Interfolio – Online Credentials Service What is the Credentials Service? The Credentials Service maintains letters of reference for current students and alumni for use in applying to graduate school, teaching positions or other employment opportunities. A typical file contains three letters of recommendation from professors who know you and your work fairly well. Your file may also contain optional items such as your resume, curriculum vitae, unofficial transcripts, or a writing sample. How do I get letters of recommendation? Carefully select professors who know you best to write letters on your behalf. Provide each writer with a copy of your resume and a description of the graduate programs, teaching positions or jobs that you are pursuing. Allow the writer at least two weeks to complete the letter. Be sure to thank letter writers for their time and assistance and let them know the results of your application process or job search. How does the credentials service work? The Rutgers Credentials Service is now online. Through a partnership between Career Services and Interfolio.com, you can now manage your credentials file 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Visit http://www.interfolio.com/students.html for more information. How do I get started? To open your file, visit http://www.interfolio.com. We suggest that you explore the site, and then follow the step-by-step instructions. Are my letters confidential or non-confidential? It's your choice. In almost all cases, graduate programs and schools request confidential letters. If you indicate that your letters are confidential, you will waive your right of access to the letters. What are the benefits to students and alumni of having this service online? The online credentials service provides the following benefits: What are the costs? Interfolio charges $19 to set up a 1-year account, and deliveries start at $4. You can pay online, using a credit card, or by check or money order. What if I have problems? If you have any problems accessing the site or managing your file, contact Interfolio at help@interfolio.com or Career Services at lkeller@echo.rutgers.edu or 732-932-8097.
