Employer's Guide to Engineering Co-op
| What is Cooperative Education? |
Cooperative education (co-op) is an opportunity for undergraduate students to apply academic preparation to "real world" situations in industry. Co-op employers offer valuable experience to students and gain significant work contributions in the process. |
| Who is eligible to participate? |
Engineering students who are in their junior or senior year and have completed more than 80 credits and have at least a 2.5 GPA are eligible to participate in the co-op program. |
| How does the co-op program work? |
Employers can post co-op positions on "CareerKnight," an Internet-based recruiting system and receive resumes directly from students. Students can be interviewed on campus or at the company site. |
| How do co-ops differ from internships? |
Co-op assignments are paid full-time positions for a duration of six months (January-June or July-December) or eight months (January - August). Internships are typically part-time during the academic year or full-time during the summer months. |
