IntroductionMathematics involves the study of numerical calculations, problem solving, logic, quantitative patterns, and more. Students pursuing a math major take a variety of courses in the areas of algebra, geometry, calculus, mathematical reasoning, and differential equations. The mathematics program at Rutgers offers several specializations, including standard, teaching, computer-oriented, statistics-mathematics, and bio-mathematics programs.
Statistics focuses on gathering and analyzing information and numerical data. Students studying statistics will complete coursework in areas such as probability, statistical analysis, regression methods, sampling, experimental design, and multivariate analysis. Students can pursue a statistics major or a joint statistics-mathematics major.
You will find there are a variety of choices for math and statistics majors. However, many careers do not require a specific major but rather a wide range of demonstrated skills and accomplishments.
