Career Opportunities for Majors in Animal Science
Introduction
The Animal Science major is designed for students who have an interest in animal production, management, sales, research, and health care. The program offers options in Animal Industries (with specialization in Animal Agribusiness, Livestock Production and Management, and Equine Science), Laboratory Animal Science, and Pre-veterinary Medicine/Research. An Animal Science degree can prepare students for a wide range of careers in industry, government, the nonprofit sector, and education. This degree also provides a foundation for graduate study in such fields as life sciences, veterinary and human medicine, and related health disciplines.
While most Animal Science graduates work in a related occupation, others choose fields that do not require a specific major but rather a wide range of demonstrated skills and accomplishments. Regardless of your career choice, increase your marketability to employers through internships, cooperative education placements, related work/volunteer experiences, good grades, advanced coursework/study abroad, and college activities.
