Career Opportunities for Majors in Public Health

Introduction

The Public Health program is offered through the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy and leads to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. It provides students with a foundation in areas such as personal and environmental health, the delivery of health services, wellness lifestyles, health research issues, current health care systems, epidemiology, health administration, and occupational health.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, some of the concerns on which public health professionals focus are related to infectious diseases, health problems of the elderly and disadvantaged, chronic diseases, health issues of infants and mothers, toxic wastes, and hazardous chemicals. The Public Health program prepares students for a wide variety of management and planning career paths in health care and disease prevention. These positions can be found in business, government, education, nonprofit, and health organizations. Continued study at the graduate level is also an option.

Regardless of your career choices, increase your marketability to employers through internships, service learning, related work experience, good grades and involvement in college activities.
