Information for Parents and Families

Dear Rutgers Parents:

Does your son or daughter know where the Career Services office is at Rutgers-New Brunswick? Actually, there are four Career Services locations - three in New Brunswick and one in Piscataway. You might just surprise your child by pointing him or her toward Career Services.

Career Services is here to help your son or daughter to choose a major, find an internship, and determine if graduate school or the workplace is the right step following graduation. Our mission is to work with students to aid them in understanding their interests, skills and values and how they relate to the world of work. We provide a wide range of resources, including individual career counseling, resume and personal statement critiques, career seminars, on-campus interviewing, internship services, employer information sessions, job fairs, and an extensive website. We cannot guarantee that your son or daughter will get a job and move out of the house after graduation, but we certainly can assist your student in making connections and gaining a competitive edge.

Check us out in person (Busch Campus Center, 46 College Avenue and 56 College Avenue) or online through this website (http://careerservices.rutgers.edu). Or contact me directly at .

Sincerely,

Dr. Richard L. White
Director, Career Services

Alumni Career Network
The Alumni Career Network is a database of Rutgers graduates from the Camden, New Brunswick, and Newark campuses who have volunteered to be mentors and share their career experiences with students and other alumni. Review the career paths of alumni. Learn about the career options open to graduates from all Rutgers majors. If you're a Rutgers graduate, register to become an alumni mentor yourself!

Career Events
Over 200 seminars, career days and e-fairs are offered on and off campus each year. There is truly something for everyone! Programs range from "How to Choose a Major" to "Resume Writing" and "Dining Etiquette." All students should be encouraged to explore the programs offered each semester and participate in those of interest.

College Majors and Career Information
Over 70 Rutgers University majors are profiled. Information is provided on the nature of the major, related career paths and employers, and actual jobs obtained by RU graduates.

InterviewTRAK Overview
One of the best ways to secure a full-time job or an internship is to participate in the Rutgers on-campus interviewing program known as "InterviewTRAK." Each year over 4,000 interviews are held on campus through the InterviewTRAK program. It's important for students to become familiar with our on-campus interviewing program early in their college careers.

Rutgers Online Career Planning Site
The Rutgers Online Career Planning Site is an interactive site that helps students identify their interests, skills and values and match them to Rutgers majors and jobs obtained by Rutgers graduates with those majors. There is no fee for this resource.
