Who qualifies?
All Rutgers - New Brunswick undergraduates who meet the qualifications of a cumulative 2.75 GPA, 30 completed credits (12 credits as a transfer), and 6 credits completed the previous semester.
When do I need to apply?
Once you receive your offer letter and accept the position, you are able to apply. Start your internship/co-op search early and keep deadline dates in mind. Deadlines are the first day of classes for the fall and spring. There is a mid-May deadline for the summer session. If you’ve missed the deadline or do not meet the qualifications, please refer to other credit options for internships and co-ops at Rutgers.

How can I apply?
Once you have accepted an offer, proceed with completing an application before semester deadlines. Please be sure to include a detailed job description of your position with your application.

NOTE: Students participating in programs with Aflac, Barclays Capital & the Disney College Program are NOT eligible for the Rutgers Internship and Co-op Program.
Career Services does not recognize the following as internships:
1. Volunteer positions with for-profit organizations.
2. Positions involving payment for participation as a research subject.
3. Positions requiring an initial investment by the student or being paid only by commission (Note: Positions that have a salary plus commission are acceptable).
4. Positions performed in private homes, including childcare, gardening, housekeeping, and respite care
5. Camp counselor positions
6. Positions for academic credit only (Note: This is acceptable if the student is gaining credit through his or her academic department)
7. Positions obtained from temporary agencies or third-party recruiters
When should I expect a response?
Within 2-3 business days you should receive a response regarding your application status. An email confirmation will be sent with a special permission number to register for the course if your position is approved for credit. Details about the course orientation will also be included.
What is expected of an applicant after you receive approval?
After receiving approval, a student is expected to register for the course through the University Registrar. Once registration is completed, students should compile all necessary paperwork and must attend a course orientation at the start of the semester. At the orientation, all logistics will be discussed regarding the online course and intern expectations. It is essential that all paperwork be completed ahead of time to ensure a seamless transition into your position.

Develop maturity, leadership, and clarity regarding your career path, possibly earn income to cover college expenses, and establish relationships with potential employers.

How many times can I participate?
You have the ability to participate in the program more than once, earning up to a maximum of 9 internship credits or 12 co-op credits.

Additional Notes:
Students enrolled in this program are required to adhere to all personnel rules, regulations, and other standard requirements of the host organization and to complete the internship or co-op as agreed, meeting the required hours, start and end dates, and all assignment deadlines.
The course requirements also include successful completion of written assignments, a final reflection paper, and evaluations throughout the term.
Career Services will assist students with the internship search process but is not responsible for finding positions for students.
