What Can I Do With a Liberal Arts Major?

Many students question the career opportunities available to them with a liberal arts background. Some believe their marketability is limited. However, researching the job selections of Rutgers graduates and exploring current job listings reveals a different picture. The reality is that liberal arts graduates find employment in business, government, education, and the non-profit sector. General knowledge skills developed through liberal arts studies can have a significant effect on your career development. Although technical skills may be helpful with securing an initial job offer, general knowledge skills may contribute more to long-term employment success.

Below are job titles which often do not require a particular academic background. These types of positions are found in all sorts of organizations and are most easily obtained by individuals who acquired relevant work experience prior to their graduations, either through internships, summer jobs, or volunteer work.
